Cookie Policy
This Cookie Policy describes the cookies and similar storage used by NCLEX Key (nclexkey.com). We keep this short — we use very few cookies.
1. What is a cookie
A cookie is a small text file a website stores in your browser. It lets the site remember things about your visit (like being logged in) across pages or sessions. Similar technologies include localStorage, sessionStorage, and pixels.
2. Cookies we set
| Cookie | Purpose | Duration | Type |
|---|---|---|---|
| Login session | Keeps you logged in after authentication | Session, or 14 days with “remember me” | Strictly necessary |
| Session authentication | Authenticates your session on secure pages | Session | Strictly necessary |
Login check (wordpress_test_cookie) |
Checks that your browser accepts cookies when you log in | Session | Strictly necessary |
Visitor ID (nclex_sess) |
A random ID that links your page views and actions on our site for our own usage statistics (see Analytics below) | 30 days | Analytics (first-party) |
Campaign tag (browser session storage, nclex_utm) |
Remembers the campaign tag of the link you arrived from, for this visit only | Until you close the tab | Analytics (first-party) |
Time zone (browser storage, nclex_user_timezone) |
Remembers your time zone so study dates display correctly | Until you clear it | Functional |
None of these are used for advertising or cross-site tracking, and none are shared with advertisers.
3. Analytics
We use two kinds of analytics, and neither is used for advertising.
Our own usage statistics. The nclex_sess cookie holds a random ID so we can see, for example, which articles or emails lead people to sign up. We record pages viewed, the referring page, campaign tags, and actions on our site. If you are logged in, these are linked to your account. We store only a one-way hash of your IP address, and we delete these records after 90 days.
Plausible Analytics for aggregate page-view counts. Plausible is cookieless — it does not set any cookies, does not assign persistent IDs, and does not track you across sites. It produces aggregate counts of page views, referrers, and device types. You can read Plausible’s data policy for details.
4. Payment cookies (Stripe)
When you go through checkout, Stripe sets its own cookies on the Stripe-hosted payment page for fraud prevention and session management. These cookies are controlled by Stripe, not us. See Stripe’s cookie policy for details.
5. What we don’t use
- Advertising pixels (Meta Pixel, Google Ads tag, TikTok Pixel, etc.)
- Cross-site retargeting
- Session-replay tools (FullStory, Hotjar, etc.)
- Data-broker integrations
If we ever add any of these, we’ll update this policy and show a more substantial consent prompt before setting them.
6. Managing cookies
You can delete or block cookies in your browser settings. Note that blocking the “strictly necessary” cookies above will log you out and prevent you from using the Service.
